Committees and Mission Statements

The University Aviation Association is the only professional organization representing all levels of the non-engineering/technology sector in collegiate aviation. Various goals and objectives of the organization are met through the work of the following committees.

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEES

Bylaws and Procedures

  1. Formulate and revise UAA Bylaws at the direction of the UAA President upon petition by the members with the consent of the Board of Trustees and the membership; and

  2. Maintain the UAA Bylaws in a current and valid status effecting changes as required through due process as defined in the Bylaws.

Executive

Provide for overall administration of UAA.

Finance

Develop policy regarding the fiscal management and activities of the Association.

Nominations

Select a slate of candidates for Officers and Board positions for the current election.

Strategic Planning

Recommend a UAA vision and a strategic plan of action to realize that vision. The vision and strategic planning process will be continuous and will encompass the UAA and its internal and external relations with other organizations.


OPERATIONS COMMITTEES

Awards

Provide oversight of policies and procedures pertaining to the nomination and selection of candidates for all UAA awards.

Curriculum

Facilitate the development of model curricula and guidelines, to include learning outcomes and methods of assessment, for both two- and four-year collegiate aviation programs.

Meeting Planning 

Provide the University Aviation Assocation members with interesting, informative, and entertaining conferences and extra-curricula events in pleasant surroundings.

Membership

Provide guidance and input on membership issues.

Publications

Provide general guidance and input for all publications of the University Aviation Association and specifically to sponsor an annual Paper Presentation as a forum for professional development and exchange among UAA members.


SPECIAL COMMITTEES

Special committees are created by the President and approved by the Board. The Committees have specific charges. Each Special Committee remains in existence until its objectives are fulfilled or it is otherwise discharged.

ATC Education

  1. Centralize a focal point for communication about ATC education issues, techniques and technology
  2. Promote and encourage innovation in ATC curriculum and the use of ATC education technology
  3. Explore new ATC technology through research and development
  4. Promote involvement of collegiate programs.

Aviation Education - K-12 

  1. Focus on relationships with primary and secondary education
  2. Provide partnership and support to industry, government and public groups in promotion of UAA and aviation.

Aviation Management

Champion the study, research and teaching of concepts that improve the management process of providing dependable and cost effective air transportation systems.

Distance Learning

  1. Serve as a resource for all UAA members with an interest in applying distance education technology to aviation education
  2. Assist UAA members in developing and sharing aviation related distance education resources
  3. Serve as a forum for discussion of issues relevant to distance education in aviation
  4. Provide leadership in developing policy standards in distance education issues.

Flight Education

Review regulatory indicators, industry trends, and institutional practices and concerns and make appropriate recommendations related to collegiate flight education programs.

Graduate Education

The mission of the UAA Graduate Education Committee is to develop, promote, and foster highly respected graduate faculty and graduate education programs within postsecondary aviation. Specifically, the Graduate Education Committee will provide and nurture relationships between graduate aviation education, the aviation industry, and government agencies in response to local, national, and global change, and to promote an outlet for graduate aviation students to disseminate their research activities.

Professional Development

Facilitate opportunities to enhance faculty, professional, and student development.

Safety

Promote safety in collegiate aviation programs by serving as a forum for concepts and innovation for the development and sustainability of aviation safety.

Scholarship

  1. Provide aviation scholarship and loan information to students
  2. Screen applicants for externally funded scholarships for which UAA is the appointed screening body
  3. Administer internally funded, UAA-based scholarships (Frasca and Kropf)
  4. Develop new aviation scholarships and loan possibilities for students.

Simulation

Encourage the continuing improvement of aviation training devices and simulators in order to accomplish effective and efficient aviation education in the collegiate environment. This includes working with collegiate aviation programs in UAA, coordinating with the FAA, and continuing the involvement of industry representatives who develop, distribute and maintain training devices for flight education.

Technical Education

  1. Facilitate communication between UAA individual and institutional members relative to technical education programs
  2. Provide a specialized interest group within the UAA to investigate technical education topics and to advise Officers and Members of UAA as required.
